With Labor Day fast approaching, families are contemplating fun things to do in Austin this weekend.  As a top Austin real estate agent, I try to keep an “ear to the ground” so that I know what is going on in this great city of ours.  And, there is a lot of fun always going on in Austin, Texas!  So, what are you going to do in Austin this weekend?  Whether it might be something mom and dad might enjoy, or the kids, there are things going on that could interest everyone!

An amazing ongoing event taking place at the Circuit of the Americas is the Cirque Du Soleil “Kooza”  – something the whole family would enjoy.  Described as,

“an adrenaline rush of acrobatics in a zany kingdom.”

I can hear the “oohs and aahs” already!  The website has a preview of the performance, so you are able to see if it’s something your family would enjoy.

If you are headed to the Austin area lakes this Labor Day weekend, please make sure and check out my previous blog post packed with tons of fun restaurants, water craft rentals, etc.

Music Playing This Weekend In Austin

A treat for mom and dad, if you are jazz lovers…catch the show “A Tribute To Legends Of Jazz” playing at One World Theatre.  The show is on Friday night, September 4th at 7:00 pm.

Also playing at One World Theatre is Grammy nominated (for his song “Lies”) R&B/Jazz musician Jonathan Butler in concert.  He will be appearing September 6th with shows at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm.

Because Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World,” there are plenty of types of music to choose from.  The Nutty Brown Café is hosting Casey Donahew Band & Roger Creager on Saturday, the 5th and Bob Schneider on Sunday, the 6th.  And, of course, there are always bands playing many venues throughout the city.  365thingsaustin.com and do512.com are great resources to catch your favorite artists and get out to have some fun.

Other Great Events This Weekend In Austin

A great “girlfriend’s night out” idea for the weekend might include Ballet Austin.  They are presenting a contemporary ballet of Hamlet at the Long Center from September 4th – 6th.  They offer two shows in the evening and a third matinee.

A fun event for the whole family is the “Cowabunga Cruise” taking place on Lake Austin.   It will be a 90’s theme with food, music, and much more.  Catch the boat on September 6th from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm.  They will begin boarding at 12:00 near the Hula Hut. All proceeds from this event will be used to support more than 300 teens from low-income families who live in Texas.

If you have kids that love Legos, the Lego Kids Fest Texas might be for your family.  They are offering sessions the 4th through the 6th at the Austin Convention Center.   Kids can experience three acres of hands-on fun! Some of the sessions are already sold out, so hurry to get tickets!

Stay Fit This Weekend

For the fit minded Austinite, the Tri Rock Austin Triathlon is happening September 7th.  With a swim start at the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue, swimmers will swim a course of Lady Bird Lake, bike a closed course over the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, and conclude with a run along Auditorium Shores.

If just relaxing is on your mind for the Labor Day weekend…on Monday, a free day of yoga is offered at participating Yoga studios.  Free classes are offered for anyone, including first timers to Yoga.

Enjoy Your Labor Day Weekend

The University of Texas Longhorn Football Team will take the field for the first time this season.  They will play Notre Dame at Fort Bend, Indiana (check out the entire 2015 UT football schedule here).  But, that doesn’t mean that you won’t want to catch the big game on television with your friends.  So, grab some munchies and yell loud enough for the Horns to hear you in Indiana!

Finally as you are enjoying all of these activities on the last “unofficial” weekend of summer, swing by Starbucks and grab a cool drink.  They have what they call “sunshine-inspired flavors now through Labor Day” that include Strawberry Shortcake and Blackberries and Crème Frappucinos.  The release date for the Pumpkin Spice Latte isn’t until September 8th anyway).
