Things To Do In Austin Inside With Kids

raindrops, things to do in austin, indoor things to in austin texas with kids, things to do in austin when it rains

I know we need rain in Central Texas.   We have been in a drought for a very long time.  But, we have had a lot of rain lately.  Are your kids getting a little stir crazy?  Austinites like to be outside playing.  We like to be on our hike and bike trails, in our parks, and on our lakes.  I have a feeling that you (and especially your kids) have been shouting, “Rain, rain, go away.  Come again some other day.”  But, the forecast says the wet stuff is here to stay for a while.  So, I thought I would list a few of the Austin area’s indoor activities that are fun (and your kids will enjoy them too).

Austin Indoor Activities For Kids

Austin has a lot of fun indoor activities to offer.  How about trying some of these today:

Main Event – They are offering a special now through May 20th.  Choose one of their entrees and they will give you a $10 FUNcard to play video games.  That sounds like fun!  Separate from that special, they always offer: bowling, laser tag, billiards, a climbing wall, and indoor (glow-in-the-dark) miniature golf.  That should run off some energy!

iFly Indoor Skydiving – Have you ever been skydiving?  No need for an airplane…just have fun inside.  You can float on a giant cushion of air.  If that doesn’t get the kids excited then I don’t know what will.

Chaparral Ice – If floating on ice (rather than air) is more your thing, then head on over to the ice rink and lace up some skates.  The kids love this activity (and it seems like they are usually better at it than the adults!)

K1 Speed Indoor Go Kart Racing – Do you and your kids have the “need for speed?”  Give K1 Speed a try.  They have adult races and kid races (so everyone competes at a level that is great for them).  And, at the end of the race, be sure and stand on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place podium and grab a photo to remember your fantastic time.

The Bob Bullock Museum – Have you heard about the ship they are building in The Bob Bullock Museum…The La Belle? Yes…you read it right…they are building it IN the museum.  You and your kids can watch experts carefully piece the ship that was shipwrecked off our Texas coast back together.  But, you need to hurry!  The last day to watch them work on this historic ship is May 17th.  Eventually, the completed ship will be an exhibit at the museum.

Also, don’t forget to look at all of the other interesting exhibits the museum offers.  And, the IMAX theater is currently showing: “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Humpback Whales,” and “Living in the Age of Airplanes.”

Austin Public Library – Your local library is always a good resource for fun indoor activities.  These great community gathering places always have something fun happening.  I have included the Austin Public Library’s calendar of events when you click on the link, but you should definitely check out what your local library has to offer.

And speaking of libraries, how about curling up with a great book?  There isn’t much better than getting comfy and letting your imagination wander with a fantastic story while the rain pours down outside.  The only thing better?  Curling up and reading a book to your kids so that y’all go on an imagination adventure together.  After, to use some energy your children still may have, dress up like the characters and act out what you just read (be a pirate, a monster, or the hero).

“The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” (Maybe Not)

The rain is forecast to keep pouring on top of Central Texas.  But, we won’t let that stop our fun!  We just need to take the fun indoors.  So, I hope my list of things to do in Austin inside will give you some ideas.  This is just a small list…Austin has tons of fun things to do.  But, this should get you and your kids thinking about it and enjoying what our wonderful city has to offer.  Have fun and stay dry!

Do you know of something fun inside in Austin to do that wasn’t listed here?  I would love to hear about it.  Please leave a comment in the area below.
