December is finally here and Austin has an dizzying array of holiday happenings planned. There are the favorite traditional standbys and a few new events you might want to check out and consider adding to your holiday activities. Whatever your interests, there is a multitude of ceremonies, celebrations and festivities to help you enjoy the season. Here are a few you may want to add to your holiday calendar:
Downtown Sing-A-Long & Holiday Stroll, December 6, Free. Gather on the south steps of the Capitol to sing songs of the season. The tree lighting will begin at 7pm, as will the Holiday Stroll down Congress Avenue. Shops and museums will stay open late, Santa will be on hand, and Austin musicians will keep the music going. Capital Area Food Bank will be accepting non-perishable food and cash donations.
Trail of Lights, December 6 – December 21. You’ll want to plan ahead as only pre-permitted parking will be allowed and neighborhood parking restrictions will be in effect. Check out their website for info on parking and transportation.
Ice Skating on the Rooftop, Whole Foods Market, 525 Lamar Blvd, December 1 – January 11. Put on your warm socks, grab a hot chocolate, and enjoy the winter wonderland on Whole Foods Market’s Rooftop Plaza.
Theatre! ZACH Theatre is rockin’ and rollin’ all holiday season with A Christmas Carol, A Rockin’ New Musical and Martin Burke’s acclaimed one-man show, This Wonderful Life.
Music! The Austin Symphony will be performing twelve free concerts featuring different ensembles throughout the season. Click here for the schedule and locations of performances.
