That wonderful TEXAS fall crisp feeling is in the air – well, sort of…at least we aren’t in the triple digits anymore.  It may not feel very cool outside, but I hope everyone is enjoying the smell of pumpkin spice candles in the house, and getting out for walks now that the temps have lowered a bit.  We know those cooler temperatures are on their way – eventually – so we need to think of some fall decorating ideas for our homes.  We want our homes to really give our family and friends that warm, cozy feel this time of year and there are so many ways to accomplish that.

In the past, we have looked at some “chores” that needed to be done, such as cleaning gutters, having the chimney inspected and cleaned, and vacuuming drapes.  Here is a reminder of that article (just in case you didn’t finish your “to-do” list).  Now that we’ve gotten the “not so fun” things out of the way, let’s move on to the more interesting and enjoyable things we can do to decorate our homes to showcase the season.

Fall Decorating Ideas For Your Home

House Beautiful, in an article by Karen Ziga and Caroline Picard, has some excellent ideas to shake up the décor a bit to give it that autumn feel.  They suggest bringing in plaids to pillows that give the living room a different look from the summer accessories we used. Soft, fuzzy throws in the bedroom warm up the room as well.  Don’t forget that fall wreaths, either personally made or bought, can be hung inside over the fireplace, as well as on the front door.  One great idea, too, is adding a reading nook to your home.  Either under the stairs or in a corner of a room a unique area can be easily built in for curling up on a cold, rainy day with a good book.

Changing linens from that summer look is always an easy thing to do as well.  Trade out those bright colors for the warmer, darker colors to get everyone in the mood for the cooler weather.  Another option is slipcovers.  Mixing it up with slipcovers that give that feel you are looking for is an easy fix.
