A few months ago, I began a series of blogs that will focus on areas of Austin.  I would like to give you some insight on the many neighborhoods and communities that Austin offers.  Each is so different, unique, and special that I know you will want to learn about each.  I began with Travis Country.  I hope you continue to follow along with me in the series.  And, I’m not the only one that thought this would be a great topic.  Austin Monthly magazine featured an article entitled, “The 20 Best Austin Neighborhoods” in their July issue!  In this blog, let’s take a look at the excitement of downtown Austin.

Downtown Austin: Nightlife

Austin is growing and many are moving to downtown.  Recently, Austin ranked #1 on US News & World Report’s list of “Best Places to Live”!  As you can imagine, downtown Austin is a hot spot for activity.  After all, we are the “Live Music Capital of the World.”

Dining and Drinking in Downtown Austin

I can’t even begin to count the number of restaurants and bars in the downtown Austin area.  Austin has become a foodie’s travel destination.  We have some of the finest chefs in the world preparing our cuisine.  From food trucks to brick and mortar restaurants, fusion to original and authentic recipes, chances are… Austin has it.  (And, downtown might just be the place to find it).

We have areas of downtown Austin to meet your friends for dinner, drinks, and great live music.  The Downtown Alliance lists many of the areas and their different “vibes” such as: 6th Street, Red River, the Warehouse District, Rainey Street, and 2nd Street.

Downtown Austin: Business

Of course, Austin likes to get down to business too.  We are proud of our major employers (We’re known for our high tech companies, government employers, as well as our healthcare employers – among others).

However, in downtown Austin, you will find small mom and pop stores next door to corporate skyscrapers.  We like it that way.  We are proud to shop local and in downtown Austin you can certainly do just that.  Downtown Austin has everything you could need or want – from fun boutiques and quirky one of the kind finds to the huge Whole Foods flagship store.

Downtown Austin: Living

The true fun comes in living downtown though.  The downtown area is booming with beautiful new luxury condos.  Many of these condos have gorgeous views of the city and wonderful amenities.  You can live where you work, play, and shop!  It’s a great lifestyle for an Austinite.

Are you worried about living in a concrete jungle?  Don’t be!  We LOVE our outdoor space in Austin.  When living in downtown, you are steps away from Lady Bird Lake (and all of its fun activities) and the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike TrailZilker Park is nearby as well.

As you might expect, downtown Austin is convenient in that many major roads are accessible.  IH-35 runs on the east side of downtown while MoPac (Loop 1) runs on the west side.

The University of Texas at Austin is also in the downtown area.  So, there is never a shortage of Longhorn burnt orange in sight!

A Fun Place To Live

Austin’s motto is, “Keep Austin Weird.” While downtown Austin certainly lives up to the motto, I think it would be better described as, “Keep Downtown Austin Unique.”  Downtown Austin offers so much – from big and small businesses, nightlife, restaurants, fantastic live music (from big names to those just starting), luxury living, and the list goes on and on.  If you are looking for a big city feel, then downtown Austin is for you.

I would love to chat with you about downtown Austin or any area of our great city.  Please give me a call at (512) 732-3820 or simply click here.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Don’t forget to come back soon for my next blog discussing another area of Austin.
